In October 2023, Supply Chimp's leadership, including myself, Kris Colt (VP Revenue), and Mike Weinstein (Director of Vendor Partnerships), actively participated in the National Institute of the Blind's annualconference in Washington DC. Kris was invited to speak on a panel about supply chain integrity and performance, during which the GSA team emphasized the critical importance of contract delivery performance. Erv Koehler, Assistant Comissioner declared: Right now it's all about delivery, delivery, delivery." This challenge set the tone for Supply Chimp's New Year's Resolution in 2024: to achieve best-in-class contract performance.
To realize this goal, we're pursuing four key strategies:
Collaborating Closely with Strategic Partners
At Supply Chimp, fostering strong partnerships with vendors has always been fundamental to our strategy. Our commitment extends beyond mere collaboration to full integration and automation. We work closely with our key partners, planning inventory together based on our proprietary demand data and forward positioning. This approach supports seamless cooperation, enhancing the efficiency of our supply chain, and ensures strong in-stock rates and delivery speed for our customers.
Getting the Data Right
An important takeaway from the conference was the emphasis on accuracy and timeliness in providing updates to the GSA's order tracking system, OMS. As a highly automated partner already using EDI for communication, we identified and addressed opportunities to further improve accuracy in our existing EDI setup. We've invested in building stronger reporting systems and automated processes to quickly detect and rectify discrepancies. This proactive approach ensures that our data aligns with the highest standards, contributing to improved delivery performance.
Proactively Tackling Supply Chain Issues
While 2023 saw a robust recovery across our supply chain, occasional backorders or inventory shortages can impact shipments. To address this, Supply Chimp has established a dedicated team that proactively reaches out to vendors upon detecting any risks to meeting delivery expectations. This approach allows us to obtain updated delivery quotes promptly, and in cases of anticipated delays, we explore alternative sources or items. This proactive stance ensures that potential issues are identified and addressed before they impact delivery timelines.
Preventing Frustrated Freight
Addressing concerns raised at the NIB conference, Supply Chimp acknowledges the significance of following labeling standards, such as Mil-Std 129, to ensure timely package deliveries. We've collaborated closely with our vendors to implement these standards, emphasizing the importance of compliance. By adhering to industry standards and implementing strategic approaches, we aim to eliminate frustrated freight and contribute to a smoother, more efficient supply chain.
In summary, Supply Chimp's commitment to contract performance excellence is underlined by these four strategic initiatives. By collaborating closely with partners, ensuring data accuracy, proactively tackling supply chain issues, and preventing frustrated freight, we are poised to achieve the goal of best-in-class contract performance in 2024.
